Tried to fact-check that 'missing child' post from my neighborhood group using just the police website and found nothing, which made me wonder how many local panics start from zero evidence.

I spent an hour cross-referencing names and dates on the county sheriff's active cases page after seeing the frantic shares, and the complete lack of any official record has me asking if we should require a source link before hitting share on those emotional posts.

This happens everywhere now, and @laura486, even a link can be part of the problem.

Man, you are doing the actual work that everyone else just skips. It's so easy to get swept up in that panic, but you actually checked. I've seen those posts blow up my feed too and it creates this whole wave of fear over what might be nothing. A source link rule would save us all a ton of worry, because once that stuff is out there, you can't undo the scare it causes.

Could we even trust the source links people would post?
