My neighbor saw my kimchi jars and said 'that's just old cabbage'

Why do people act like food they don't know is gross? I see it with my dad calling my friend's curry "weird soup" or my coworker saying kombucha is just rotten tea. It's like if it's not a sandwich or pasta, it's automatically suspicious lol. Makes me wonder if they've ever tried anything new.

Remember my friend who brought kimchi to a work potluck? Someone called it "old cabbage" and made a face before even tasting it. She explained it's just spicy fermented veggies, same idea as pickles they love. The weird part was watching them try it later and actually like it, but still act like it was a big deal. Makes you think it's less about the food and more about being scared to admit they might enjoy something new. Why do you think people put up that front instead of just being curious?

Saw a thing that said people link new food to feeling out of control, so they call it gross to feel safe. It's a weird little brain trick.
