Serious question, had to choose between a 2-gallon crock and a 5-gallon bucket for my first sauerkraut batch
Honestly, I went with the bucket and now I have enough kraut to feed my entire apartment building for a year. Anyone have creative uses for 15 pounds of fermented cabbage?
Classic first timer move right there. My fridge looked like a cabbage bomb went off for months. Got real creative with kraut grilled cheese and putting it on pizza. Honestly considered just giving jars to random neighbors as a weird peace offering.
derekhunt I totally get the neighbor thing. I read somewhere that sauerkraut was actually used as a cure for scurvy on long ship voyages back in the day. It's pretty wild how much vitamin C it has. I bet your neighbors would appreciate it more than you think, especially if you toss in a little recipe card for kraut grilled cheese.
