PSA: I noticed a big change in what people want for their yards
Driving around my neighborhood, I saw way more native plants in gardens this year. It hit me that folks are picking flowers that need less water and care. My shop got more calls for local wildflowers than fancy imports. This shift means we have to talk to different growers now. It's cool to see how small choices add up to a bigger trend.

But is it actually a big deal? My street looks the same, just grass and a few shrubs. Maybe a couple people added some coneflowers, but most yards are still boring lawn. It might just be your specific area or the type of customers you have. Calling it a major shift seems like a stretch when most garden centers are still full of the same old plants.

jades11, you might not notice it yet, but the change is happening in the supply chain. Wholesale orders for local wildflowers have jumped, with things like black-eyed susans and native grasses moving faster than traditional bedding plants. This shift means growers are planning more native stock for next season, which will show up in more yards soon. It's not just about one street looking different right now.

Noticed my local hardware store suddenly had a whole section of prairie mix seeds last spring... the manager mentioned they kept selling out. Guess even big box stores are catching on to what people are asking for. Makes you wonder what else is shifting behind the scenes.

Honestly, I get where jades11 is coming from, it can feel slow. But tbh, seeing those seeds sell out at a big store is a pretty big sign. It starts with a few people buying the mix, then their neighbors see the bees and butterflies and want in too. It's a quiet change, but once the growers switch what they're growing, it'll spread faster than you think.
