My neighbor called the cops because my drone was 'spying' during a shoot

Now I have to explain why I'm using a drone to the police while my client waits.

Neighbor calling the cops over a drone shoot is crazy. Your client must be annoyed.

Heard cops often side with neighbors in drone disputes.

That whole situation sounds like a nightmare, especially with the client waiting. Honestly, the real problem might be the neighbor's fear, not the law. Maybe next time try telling nearby houses you're filming beforehand, even if it's not required. A quick heads-up can stop the panic that leads to a 911 call. It's annoying extra work, but cheaper than losing shoot time to cops.

When I was shooting a real estate video in Austin last spring, the same thing happened with a neighbor calling the cops. I had my drone license and site permission papers printed out. The officers looked everything over and said I was fine to keep flying. It saved me a lot of trouble and kept the client happy. Now I always carry that stuff in a folder so I can show it fast. Did you have your permits with you when they showed up?
