Remember when you could just slap on a coat of poly and call it a day?
I was refinishing a 1920s oak dresser in my garage last fall, and the new water-based finish I tried just wouldn't level out, leaving a weird texture. Ended up stripping it back and going with my old reliable oil-based varnish, but who even stocks that locally anymore?

Wait, you found oil-based varnish locally? I had to order mine online last year. That stuff is basically a ghost on hardware store shelves now.

Finding it feels like winning a weird, sticky lottery.

Ever try checking with smaller paint stores? I had to call three places before one said they could order it for me. Ended up being cheaper than online too.

Found it in the back corner of an old mom-and-pop place, covered in dust like some forbidden artifact.
