Heard a guy at the coffee shop say his smartwatch battery only lasts a day now

I was grabbing coffee yesterday and the guy next to me was complaining to his friend. He said his smartwatch, which is about 2 years old, needs a charge every single day now, not every 3 days like when it was new. It made me think about how we review gadgets when they're fresh out of the box, but not how they hold up. My own fitness tracker started having similar issues after 18 months. It's a big factor in whether something is actually worth the money. Has anyone else had a gadget's battery life drop off a cliff after a couple years?

I get what you mean about battery life dropping, but my experience has been different. My own smartwatch is going on three years and I still get two full days between charges. Maybe it depends on how you use it or the brand you pick. I've found that turning off features I don't need really helps it last longer. It hasn't been a big issue for me like it was for that guy you overheard.

It reminds me of how people talk about car mileage. Two neighbors can buy the same model, but one gets way better gas mileage just based on their driving habits. We often blame the device itself without considering our own use. A little time spent adjusting settings, like turning off notifications for apps you never use, makes a world of difference.

It really does come down to how you set it up. My first one drained fast until I turned off the always-on display and cut back on constant heart rate checks. Picking a watch known for battery life helps too, some brands just build them better for lasting power. A lot of people don't dig into the settings, but those small changes add up to a full extra day for me.
