Honestly, my phone just told me I've spent 1,000 hours on a single game review app.
Ngl, I only downloaded it to check specs for a new tablet, but the achievement badges got weirdly addictive. Anyone else get sucked into a gadget site's gamification like that?

I read an article last year about how Target's app uses a similar badge system to keep people checking prices. It's crazy how a simple progress bar can make you open an app you don't even need. I've definitely wasted an afternoon chasing a "weekly deal hunter" badge on a store app before. They design that stuff to be just engaging enough to become a habit.

That part about it being "just engaging enough to become a habit" is so true. It's not just apps, it's everywhere now. My coffee shop stamp card does the same thing, where you feel like you have to finish it even if you don't want another drink. They build these tiny goals into everything to keep us coming back without us even thinking about it.

Eh, it's just a little badge on an app. People can choose to ignore it if they want.
