Pro tip: Don't buy a 'smart' kettle that needs an app to boil water

I grabbed one on sale for $45 thinking it was cool, but the app never connected right and the manual button broke after a month. Now I'm back to using a regular kettle and I'm out that cash. Anyone know a good, simple kettle that just boils water without the tech hassle?

Ugh, that's rough. My brother got one of those and the app needed an update every other week just to work. He finally gave up and plugged in an old travel kettle he found in a closet. It looks ridiculous but it boils water every single time.

Right, the app needing constant updates just to boil water. Isn't that the whole problem, @garcia.jake? We're adding layers of stuff that can break to a simple task. That old travel kettle works because it's just a heating coil and a switch. No software team needed for your morning coffee.

Honestly, what happens when the company that made the app shuts down their servers? Tbh that's my biggest fear with all this stuff, you're left with a brick.
