I finally had to stop a coworker from using the wrong cleaner on tinted glass

Saw him grab a harsh ammonia spray. Could have ruined the film. Always double check what products your team is using.

Yeah, that's a HUGE deal because cleaners with ammonia can actually break down the tint film fast. Once it's messed up, you need a whole new film and that costs a ton. It's wild how many folks just grab any bottle without reading. We started color coding our sprays after a close call. This stuff should be part of the basic job talk for sure. That quick mistake can ruin expensive work in seconds.

But does ammonia really break it down that fast? I've used similar stuff and my tint's fine. How often does this actually happen?

What's scary about the "basic job talk" point is that it often skips telling the tech why, so they don't take it seriously. You gotta explain to customers too, like when laura486 doubts it happens fast, because the damage might not be obvious until weeks later when it's purple and bubbly. That hidden breakdown means you get the blame later for a "bad tint job" when it was just the wrong cleaner used a month ago. It kills your reputation over something that could have been a thirty second warning.
