After ten years, I'm convinced that sealing attic hatches does more harm than good.

All that caulk just traps moisture and causes rot, doesn't it?

Hold up, you're "convinced" it does more harm? That's wild after what @mia_wood said about hidden leaks. You seal it up tight and you just lock all that wet air in there with the wood. It's basically asking for rot you'll never see coming.

Wait, sealing properly prevents drafts and moisture issues.

Sealing can actually make moisture problems worse if there's a leak you don't know about. It just traps the water inside the wall. Seen it lead to rot you don't find until it's really bad.

Trapping water isn't a risk with proper sealing and leak detection.
