Thinking about how meditation guides have changed, I honestly MISS the awkward pauses and background noise in old tapes.

Ugh yes, this hits home. My own brain is so bad at perfect silence, it needs those weird little sounds to keep from freaking out. Honestly the old tapes were like a friend who was also kind of a mess, instead of a robot judge watching you not breathe right. I'd probably be the human background noise in someone else's tape, always doing something dumb like dropping the microphone.

Isn't the silence kind of the point though? Sometimes all that noise just feels like clutter, you know?

Oh man, you are so right. I tried one of those new perfect silent apps and it just felt weird. The old cassette I had would have this faint ticking from a clock in the room and sometimes a dog barking outside. Tbh, that stuff made it feel more real, like a person was just sitting there with you. Now everything is so clean it feels kind of cold. I kept an old tape player just for my favorite one that has a car horn in the distance halfway through.

Totally get that. All that perfect silence feels fake. The old weird stuff was way more human.
