My street photos were boring until I stopped following the 'all candid' rule everyone loves.

But what if the magic is in the moments you don't stage? For me, trying to set things up just kills the real, messy energy of the street, and all my photos start to look planned. I guess I'd rather chase that raw, unplanned feeling that makes a scene feel alive.

Ever had a moment where a photography rule just didn't work for you? I was so stuck on the idea that street photos had to be totally candid, like a spy movie or something. Then one rainy day, my camera was getting wet and this lady with a bright umbrella smiled at me, so I just asked if I could take her picture. We ended up chatting for a bit, and that photo is still one of my favorites because it has this connection you don't always get from sneaky shots. It's funny how letting go of one rule can make your work feel more alive, you know?

Let your camera get wet on purpose, are you insane?

Totally get what you mean. I used to think I couldn't move anything in a scene, like it had to be perfectly raw. Then I shifted a stray coffee cup out of a frame once and the whole photo just clicked better. Sometimes the best shot happens after you mess with the "right" way.
