inPSA: My $40 investment in a proper lens spanner wrench finally let me fix a stuck zoom ring without stripping the threads.
How many times have I almost ruined a lens because I thought a pair of pliers and some cloth was good enough? I used to think a tool was a tool, but trying to force the wrong thing just makes a small problem way worse. Getting the right spanner is like the lens finally decided to talk to you instead of fight.

inSerious question, has anyone else seen more composite tube being spec'd for high-temp jobs?
You mentioned the switch from seamless to composite. Is the 800-degree rating for continuous service or just a short-term peak? That spec makes a huge difference in what they're actually trying to do.

inHot take: My friend in Austin called my AI project 'just a fancy search engine'
Right? @alicer53, it's wild how it gets the meaning now! I asked it to explain a joke from a show last week, and it actually broke down why it was funny based on the characters. It didn't just pull a summary from a wiki.

inAppreciation post: I gave up on a 'ruined' Hasselblad back after a single try
That Hasselblad back might have just needed the right touch. I fixed one last year that sat in a damp garage for a decade, and now it runs smooth. The feeling when a stubborn piece finally clicks is worth the extra tries. I get what brooke_taylor44 is saying about knowing when to quit, but I've seen too many things brought back from the dead to agree. Giving up after one afternoon in the heat might mean you walked away from a fixable problem. Sometimes the real win is in not listening to everyone who says it's trash.

inVent: I fixed a tricky quarter panel dent with a heat gun and dry ice
Yeah, that "heat the metal just enough" part is key. I used to think you had to get it really hot, like with a torch, but that just warps everything. A heat gun on high for maybe 30 seconds is the sweet spot, then the quick cold shock pops it right out. Works on older steel fenders too, just takes a couple more tries sometimes.
