Update: A viewer finally told me why my 'viral' dance tutorial from 2021 got zero traction after the first week.

They said the moves were already outdated by the time I posted, so I started checking trend cycles on TikTok before filming anything new. Anyone else pivot their content after realizing they were chasing dead trends?

Hot take: Brutal but useful. That's the double-edged sword of chasing trends, honestly. You're basically trying to hit a moving target that's already halfway down the street. Checking the trend cycles first is the only way to play that game now, which is kind of exhausting. It turns making content into a weird science project instead of just doing something fun.

Yeah but when does the science project just become the whole job? Like you're not even making stuff for people anymore, you're just feeding an algorithm that gets bored faster every year. Feels like we're all training to be trend forecasters instead of actually doing the thing we signed up for. What's left when the fun part is gone?

But what if your own style is the next trend?
