Chat with a programmer made me doubt AI art tools altogether
My buddy Dave who codes AI stuff told me these image generators just remix existing art without understanding anything. He said they can't make real choices like a person does when picking a brush or a color. Is there any solid proof these tools actually create something truly new?

My buddy Dave who codes AI stuff told me these image generators just remix existing art without understanding anything. Yeah that sounds about right actually. I was messing around with one of those tools last month trying to make a picture of my dog wearing a wizard hat and it came out looking like someone melted a corgi with a traffic cone. The ears were just... wrong. Like weird lumps. I showed my friend who paints and she laughed and said "see, it can't even do basic dog anatomy." Made me wonder if these things are just fancy collaging instead of creating.

Three times I tried to get one to make a simple golden retriever sitting on a beach and every single time it gave the dog like six legs or just a blob with eyes... my roommate said it looked like a Tim Burton reject.

Oh man, I feel you @williamhenderson - that wizard dog story cracked me up but it's also exactly the kind of thing that makes me doubt these tools too. The way they fumble basic stuff like ears or eyes (or hands, forget about hands) really shows there's no real understanding happening under the hood. It's like watching a really good parrot repeat words without knowing what they mean, you know?
