My brother said AI is just a better calculator now, and it kinda stuck with me.

He was talking about how his work uses it for basic data sorting, nothing fancy. Made me wonder what counts as a real 'innovation' versus just a smarter tool, you know?

Your brother's "better calculator" line is spot on for how a lot of places use it. The real innovation for me was when it started suggesting connections in my research I hadn't seen myself. That shift from just sorting data to sparking new ideas felt like a different kind of tool.

But is that just seeing patterns in old data?

Totally! That spark is the whole point now. It's like having a weirdly smart friend who reads all your notes and goes "hey, did you notice this thing about X and that old Y report?" My team was stuck on a user flow problem for weeks, and a simple clustering suggestion from the tool showed us a usage pattern we all missed. It didn't give the answer, but it pointed right at the clue. That shift from just reordering info to actually connecting dots is what makes it feel less like a database and more like a partner.
