My old voice assistant just stopped working after a system update last night.
I was trying to set a timer for laundry and it just froze, then gave a weird error code I'd never seen before. I had to reset the whole thing and now it feels like it's lost some of the little quirks I liked. Has anyone else had a smart home gadget get worse after an update?

Wait, it lost its quirks? @nelson.wren gets it.

Ugh, I totally disagree. I feel like updates almost always mess something up. They fix one thing but break another feature you actually used. Maybe it's just me but my stuff never feels the same after a reset, it loses that learned behavior. I'd rather have the old, slightly buggy version back.

A weird error code? That’s new.

Actually, error codes pop up all the time in the logs. They're just usually hidden from the user. This one probably slipped through a new update. Makes debugging a real pain when they show up for everyone to see.

Check the support forums for that error code. I had the same freeze-up with my kitchen speaker. Found a thread where people said to clear the device cache in the app settings. Worked for me and it kept the old voice profile. Might save you another full reset.
