My air fryer almost caught fire last Tuesday and I need to warn you all

I was cooking some frozen chicken tenders around 7pm last Tuesday when I saw smoke pouring out of the back of my air fryer. Turned out a piece of breading had fallen through the basket grate and was sitting right on the heating coil. I had no idea stuff could slip through like that. I pulled the plug and let it cool down, but that little piece was completely charred black. Now I check the bottom after every single use and wipe it out with a paper towel. Has anyone else had food get trapped down there like that?

pulled the plug" Probably not the best move if smoke was already pouring out - you should've just unplugged it normally. But yeah, I've had crumbs fall through before too, it's annoying but not usually a fire hazard unless you really let it build up.

@stella_scott96 same thing happened to me, now I always shake the basket outside before cooking.
