Had a talk with a new hire in Denver that changed how I look at torque wrenches

He was fresh out of A&P school and showed me how he calibrates his own Snapon at home with a cheap beam style. Made me realize I've been trusting the shop's calibration tags for 8 years without ever double checking. Any of you guys do your own torque wrench checks?

Man that's a solid wakeup call right there. I've been guilty of just trusting the shop's tags too, never even thought about checking them myself. Seeing a fresh guy come in with that kind of attention to detail makes you respect the craft more.

80 bucks at Harbor Freight for a beam style. Caught my 3/8 Snap-on off by 12 pounds last month. @patricia32 you know the feeling - that sick drop in your stomach when you see the numbers don't match. I check mine every first weekend of the month now.

Hell yeah, caught my own torque wrench off by 15 pounds last year the same way.
