TIL my weird video format test got 10x more views on TikTok

My normal graphic design reels were getting maybe 200 views. Last week, I posted a 3-second clip of just my hand sketching a logo, sped up, with a trending sound. It blew up to 2k views overnight. I think the algorithm favors super short, high-energy loops right now. But is this just a fluke, or are we all forced to make content for the feed instead of our actual audience?

Well that tracks. My most popular thing last month was a video of a printer jam set to that "oh no" song. The actual tutorial I spent hours on got seven views, probably all from my mom. Feels like we're all just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what the algorithm wants to eat for lunch.

Honestly the spaghetti thing is a good way to put it. The algorithm just seems to like weird, simple stuff over real work sometimes. Makes you wonder why we even try.

My 3-minute cat video last week really proved @nina_taylor's point.
