Just crossed 100 episodes of Gintama and I finally get the hype

I kept hearing people talk about how Gintama is a masterpiece but it took me until episode 96 or so before it really clicked. The serious arcs hit so much harder when you've sat through all the silly random episodes first. Did anyone else feel like it took forever to get into but now can't stop watching?

Took me until the Shogun Assassination arc around episode 300 to truly get it, but now I'm rewatching all the early comedy episodes and loving them even more.
