Why does everyone keep calling Gohan's Beast form a super saiyan variant?

I keep seeing people online lumping Beast Gohan in with super saiyan forms like they're the same lineage. But the white hair and red eyes don't match any saiyan transformation we've seen before, and Toriyama even said in that 2023 interview it's a unique mutation from his potential being unlocked differently. My buddy in our Discord server argued it's just ssj3 with different coloring, but the aura spikes and eye shape are totally distinct. So which side are you on - is it a new branch or just a repainted super saiyan form?

People do this with everything now, not just Dragon Ball. Look at cars, every new crossover gets called a hatchback when it's clearly a lifted wagon. Same with music, every new rock band with a loud guitar gets compared to Nirvana even when they sound totally different. Beast Gohan has the white hair and red eyes that don't trace back to Super Saiyan at all, so calling it a variant is like saying a Mustang is just a Focus with a bigger engine. Sometimes things just are what they are, you know? New form, new name, no need to squeeze it into a box that doesn't fit.

Gotta say @lucast81 you kinda changed my mind with that example lol. I was all about calling it a Super Saiyan variant before but the car analogy makes sense. Guess I was just trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
