Multimeter leads finally bit me after 8 years

I always used the cheap test leads that came with my Fluke, figured they were fine. Last Tuesday I was checking a dead dishwasher in Maplewood and the insulation cracked right at the probe, gave me a nice pop on my thumb. Swapped to those silicone leads with the right angle tips my buddy swore by, night and day difference. Anyone else put off upgrading basic gear until it bites you, or am I the only slow learner?

Maplewood here too, and honestly I think the cheap leads did their job for eight years, that's pretty standard for basic stuff. I've had the fancy ones fail on me faster than the stock pair, so I keep the Fluke originals as my backup.
