My cousin's joke about my multimeter use shifted my diagnostic approach

Now I always check voltage twice after that embarrassing moment.

Ever have one of those tool fails that just sticks with you? My cousin saw me mix up AC and DC on my multimeter last year and still brings it up at family cookouts. Now I check my settings like three times before I even touch the probes. It's turned me into the slowest but maybe most careful person in my garage. What was your cousin's joke that changed how you work?

After that family cookout where your cousin made the joke, did you ever ask him about his own tool mistakes? abby_martinez's mix-up with AC and DC settings is something I see all the time in my workshop. What exactly did your cousin say that stuck with you? I'm curious if it was a funny one-liner or more of a teaching moment. That kind of embarrassment can really change how careful you are with diagnostics.

He just cracked a dumb joke about my multimeter skills. Not sure why everyone makes such a big deal out of it.

Actually, I don't buy that embarrassment is what makes people careful. My cousin's joke was just a throwaway line, not some big lesson. I got better by messing up on my own and fixing it, not from his comment.
