Shoutout to the guy in Tampa who handed me back a dishwasher pump and said 'feel that bearing'
He spun it about half a turn, and that tiny bit of grit I would've ignored turned out to be rust coming off the impeller shaft, so I pulled the pump on the next 3 units he flagged and found the same wear on 2 of them.
Pulling pumps on 3 units because of one guy's hunch is a lot of downtime for something that might just be normal wear. Bearing grit can come from plenty of places, and without pulling the pump you can't really say the shaft rust is what caused it. Checking one flagged unit makes sense, but I'd want a better reason before tearing into the rest.
