Vent: That Samsung fridge ice maker I thought was an easy fix
I went out to a house last Thursday in the suburbs, lady said her French door ice maker was barely making any ice. I was sure it was just the usual frozen line issue, right? Well I pulled the back panel and the ice maker assembly itself was cracked in two places. I tried to rig it up with some epoxy I had in the van but it just fell apart again an hour later. Turns out Samsung uses this really brittle plastic that can't handle the temp changes over time. I ended up having to order a whole new assembly from a parts supplier which took two days to arrive. The customer was cool about it but I looked like a goof for not catching the crack sooner. Has anyone else dealt with those ice maker units just snapping apart for no reason?

Oh man that sucks. The cracked plastic thing is so real with those Samsung fridges. I had the same issue with my mom's Samsung, the ice maker just straight up split down the middle after like two years. No reason at all, just brittle plastic that can't handle being cold all the time. You're not alone on that one for sure.

Wait, "split down the middle"?! Like the whole plastic casing just cracked in half? That's wild, I've never heard of it doing that before. I thought it was bad enough when the little ice bucket broke on my old fridge, but the whole icemaker splitting sounds like a nightmare. Two years is way too soon for something that expensive to just fall apart like that. Did your mom try to get Samsung to do anything about it or did they just blow her off?

Did your mom ever figure out if that was a known issue with that model, or did Samsung just give her the runaround? I'm always curious how companies handle stuff like that when it's clearly a design flaw.
