I finally figured out why my anchor points kept slipping

Was doing a removal in Tacoma last Tuesday and my cambium saver kept creeping down the trunk no matter how I set it. Turns out I was using rope that was too slick for the bark, swapped to a coarser line and it held solid through the whole job. Anyone else run into this on certain tree species?

That "creeping down the trunk" thing is the worst, especially when you're already partway up and trying to work. I've totally been there with smooth bark on certain maples and even some younger alders. The slick rope just slides no matter how much friction you think you've got. Swapping to a coarser line makes a huge difference, but I've also found that a little extra wrap around the trunk can buy you time until you can swap gear. Glad you got it sorted before it became a real problem, that's a frustrating way to lose half a day.

Gotta say though, the extra wrap trick only works for so long before it starts binding up on you when you're trying to move. In my experience, it's more of a quick patch than a real fix, so I'd swap that line out sooner rather than later if you can.
