I was wrong about using a climbing line as a rigging line for years, a big oak limb in my neighbor's yard finally showed me why.

Tell me about it. I learned that lesson the hard way too, trying to lower a big pine top. The climbing line just didn't have the guts for the shock load, and it snapped back something awful. Scared me straight. Now I won't touch anything but a proper rigging line for that kind of work. What were you trying to lower when it went wrong?

So what finally gave on that oak limb?

After my own scare, I switched to a rigging line like @aaron880 said, and it's made all the difference.
