Stop using that fancy brush on pot sherds, I learned that the hard way
Spent 3 weeks cleaning pottery from a site near Santa Fe with a soft bristle brush like they show in textbooks. Ruined 4 sherds with painted decoration before someone told me to just use a dry toothpick and never touch the surface. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from old field manuals that ruined artifacts?

Wait, are we really acting like a soft brush is a war crime now?

Wait till @eva_moore sees how people act about using the "wrong" setting on their washing machine in the laundry forum I lurk on. People lose their minds over the gentlest cycle like it's a personal insult.

Tbh I learned the hard way that some fabrics just don't do well on gentle no matter how careful you are. I ruined a favorite sweater by trusting the delicate cycle when it actually needed a regular spin to get the water out properly. Now I just tell people to check the care tag and run a test swatch first, saves a lot of yelling in the laundry room.
