PSA: I was asking questions wrong for months until a friend pointed it out

I was helping my cousin in Austin with a project last week and kept asking 'what's the best way to do this?' every time I got stuck. After the third time, he just said, 'You're asking for the best answer when you just need any answer to get moving.' That was it. I realized I was getting stuck because I was trying to find the perfect question instead of just asking something. Now I start with a simple 'how do I start?' and go from there. Has anyone else found a small change in how they ask things that made a big difference?

Oh man, that's so true. I read something similar about "satisficing" versus optimizing. It basically said our brains freeze up trying to find the perfect option, when a "good enough" choice gets you 90% of the way there and you can adjust later. Asking "how do I start?" is the perfect example of that.

Yeah, the "good enough" choice thing is key. I just pick the first step that seems okay and do it. Fix it later if you have to.

Ever notice how this works with small daily choices too. Like picking a gym outfit in the morning. If I try to find the perfect one, I'll stand there for ten minutes. If I just grab the first clean pair of shorts, I'm out the door. Where do you find yourself overthinking a simple start the most?
