Saw a vendor at the Austin trade show push Salesforce as the only option for scaling B2B clients
I was at the SaaStr annual event in Austin last October and this one sales guy kept saying Salesforce is the only CRM that works when you hit 50+ accounts. I've been running a small consulting shop with 3 clients and using Pipedrive just fine for 2 years now. Is everyone else really ditching simpler tools once they grow or is that just vendor hype?

That "Salesforce is the only CRM that works when you hit 50+ accounts" line is pure vendor hype. I've been running a mid-sized firm for six years now, and I stuck with a simpler tool called Insightly until we crossed 200 accounts. The truth is most CRMs can handle scaling just fine if you set them up right from the start. The real issue with bigger tools like Salesforce is the insane amount of customization and training you have to do to make them useful. For most B2B consulting shops, Pipedrive or HubSpot will serve you well past 50 clients as long as you keep your data clean and automate the boring stuff. Don't let salespeople scare you into spending money you don't need to.

Yeah that "clean data matters more than the tool" part really got me. I used to be one of those people who thought you needed something heavy like Salesforce once you hit a certain size. But after reading this I'm rethinking everything. We switched to a simple system last year and honestly the biggest difference has been how disciplined we are about entering info correctly.
