Spent $150 on a GPS watch for a solo hike and it saved my butt in the fog

I was up on the Long Trail in Vermont last month and the fog rolled in so thick I couldn't see 10 feet. My phone had no signal, but that watch kept me on trail with the preloaded map. Has anyone else relied on a device more than they expected to on a sketchy day?

Most GPS watches use GPS, not cell service, for navigation, just so you know.

Wait, they DON'T use cell signal at all? How's that even work?

Yeah and @wilson.olivia basically the GPS saved me too on a foggy ridge last fall.
