Had a sit-down with my nephew who joined that self-improvement group last fall.

He told me the group's leader said cutting off family was necessary for growth, and I asked him flat out why a real growth plan needs to isolate you from people who love you. Anyone else watched someone close get pulled into one of these and try to reason with them?

Compared rubber mulch against plain wood chips for my shed foundation and the winner was clear

I put a 10x12 shed in my backyard last spring and needed something for the ground underneath. Did a side by side test with rubber mulch on one half and wood chips on the other. After one year the wood chips had decomposed about 2 inches deep and weeds were starting to push through. The rubber mulch side still looks like day one. No weeds no settling. It cost me about $60 more for the rubber but I figure it will pay for itself in a few years since I won't have to keep topping it off. Anyone else try this or use something different under their shed?

Got a tip from an old diver in Port Fourchon that saved me an hour on a valve job

I was swapping out an anode on a riser clamp last week and struggling with the bolt alignment. This guy named Earl who's been diving since the 80s walked by and told me to use a pry bar to tweak the bracket half an inch instead of fighting it. I tried it and the bolt slid right in. Took me maybe 2 minutes after that. Has anyone else had a random shore-side tip that just made your whole day easier?

Shoutout to the cashier who showed me how to use the store app at Aldi last Thursday

I was standing there trying to figure out why my total was $67 when I only grabbed like 15 things. She just scanned my rewards card and showed me the digital coupons on the app. Saved $12 right there. Now I check the app before I even walk in the store. Has anyone else had a random stranger or worker change how you budget at the grocery store?

Wasted $200 on a brush pack I saw an influencer use

I saw this digital artist on Instagram using a specific brush set for their landscapes and bought it the same day. The pack was $200 and came with over 100 brushes, but I only used maybe 5 of them in the last 6 months. Turns out most of them are just slight variations of basic round brushes with different textures. The preset canvas sizes were also off for my workflow, so I had to resize everything. I should have just stuck with free brushes from Kyle's or even made my own. Has anyone else dropped cash on a brush bundle that ended up collecting dust?

Hit 30 solar panels mounted on my own house and I'm still shocked

I've been doing this desert renovation for about two years now, little by little. Last weekend I finally hit 30 solar panels up on my roof in Phoenix and I honestly didn't think I'd get that far. Each one took forever to install because of the heat and making sure the brackets were solid on the clay tiles. I kept a tally on my garage wall and seeing that number 30 made me realize how many afternoons I spent up there sweating. The electric bill dropped by like 40 bucks already this month which feels good too. Has anyone else kept a running count on something during their build and surprised yourself?

Just spent a morning at the MRO in Atlanta and it changed my mind about digital recordkeeping

I've always been a paper log guy, swore by it for 15 years. But last Tuesday I was down at Delta's TechOps facility in Hartsfield-Jackson and saw how their mechanics use tablets for every sign-off and inspection. One guy showed me how he pulled up a whole engine's repair history in 20 seconds flat. No flipping through binders, no hunting for smudged signatures. It convinced me that digital tracking saves way more time than I thought. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted it or are you all happy with it?

Spent 45 minutes fixing a glitch that was just a loose monitor cable

I was editing a video for a client and the timeline kept jumping around randomly. I thought it was a software bug so I reinstalled the whole program, which took like an hour. Then I checked all my settings, updated drivers, the whole nine yards. Finally I bumped my desk and the screen flickered, and I realized the display cable was barely hanging on. Has anyone else gone down a rabbit hole only to find the fix was something that simple?

Had to pick between a full run of The Spectre or a single issue of Action Comics #1 in a trade

Tbh, I went with the Spectre run because it had like 18 issues and I'm a sucker for those weird supernatural stories from the 70s. The Action Comics #1 was missing the back cover and had tape stains all over, so I told myself it was a bad investment. After reading through the Spectre last weekend, I'm happy with my choice - the art by Murphy Anderson is killer. But a buddy said I could have sold the Action for triple that at a bigger con. Anyone else face a similar choice between quantity and a rare piece?

My $150 mistake on a clipper sharpening service that wrecked my Kemeis

Sent my Kemei clippers to a mail-in sharpening place in Ohio about 2 months ago, paid $150 with shipping. Got them back and the blades were cutting uneven and pulling hair, never had that happen before. I think they overground the edges or messed up the angle, now I gotta replace the whole set. Anyone else had a bad experience with those mail-in sharpeners or am I just unlucky?
