That monsoon hike in Sedona nearly got me killed because I ignored the flash flood warning.

I was 3 miles into Devil's Bridge when the sky went dark and I had to scramble up a cliff face to avoid a wall of water coming down the canyon has anyone else had a close call underestimating weather on a desert route just because the trail was rated easy?

My husband and I got caught in a sudden flash flood on the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon back in 2015, we had to climb up a rocky slope and huddle under an overhang for two hours while the water roared past below us.

That line about huddling under an overhang while the water roared past just gave me chills. I had a friend from Arizona who went through something similar on the Havasu Creek trail a few years back, and she said the sound of the water was the scariest part because you couldn't tell if more was coming. She and her group ended up clinging to this big rock for like an hour and a half, not knowing if they'd have to climb higher. People really don't realize how fast those canyons can turn dangerous until you're in it, I guess.
