Pro tip: Hang a magnetic strip on your shed wall for small tool storage
I got tired of digging through a plastic bin every time I needed my pruning shears or a screwdriver. Three weeks ago I grabbed a cheap magnetic knife strip from Home Depot for like $12 and screwed it to the inside wall of my shed. Now all my metal tools just stick right there, easy to grab and put back. Has anyone else tried something simple like that for organizing small stuff?

Didn't someone mention that magnets can mess with certain tools like digital levels or compasses though? I always wonder if that's just an old myth or if it's actually a problem.

Honestly, it's definitely not just an old myth. I had a digital level that started giving me wonky readings after I left it sitting on top of a magnetic parts tray in my truck for a few weeks. Ngl, it messed up a whole shelf install before I realized what was happening. Tbh, compasses are probably the easiest to mess up since they rely on the Earth's magnetic field, so even a small magnet can throw them off for good.

To be honest, I used to think the whole "magnets break your tools" thing was just some old-timer superstition. But the point about the digital level getting wonky readings really hit home for me. I had a cheap compass in my truck console completely freak out and point a full 45 degrees off after I kept it next to a speaker magnet for a month. That changed my mind real quick. So now I keep my magnetic strip away from anything digital or delicate, and just use it for basic steel hand tools like wrenches and shears.
