That $50 'expert course' on spotting deepfakes was a total waste

I saw a thread on here last week from someone pushing a paid course that claimed to teach you how to spot any deepfake video. I paid $50 for it and it was basically just a list of common sense tips like check for weird eye movements and audio sync issues. No actual tools or real examples, just a slideshow. I could have learned the same stuff from a free YouTube video in 15 minutes. Anyone else get burned by one of these scammy internet courses that promise to fix a problem they don't even understand?

Grabbed a free YouTube tutorial instead and honestly it covered the same stuff way better with actual video examples. Saved myself the $50, glad I didn't fall for that course.

Totally agree YouTube is a goldmine for learning stuff, no doubt about it. But just to be fair, not every free tutorial is as good as the paid ones some people put serious work into making those courses with proper structure. Still, you made the right call for your situation, no reason to drop $50 if you found something that works just as well. Good on you for not wasting money on something you didn't need.

The real problem with those paid courses is they usually don't get updated. YouTube tutorials get comments and people pointing out when something's outdated or broken, so the creator often has to update or someone makes a new video. A $50 course from last year might already be teaching tools that changed or don't work anymore. You definitely dodged that bullet.
