My grandma's old recipe card for biscuits was the clue I needed

I'd been making them for a decade, always a bit tough. The card said 'cut in the butter until it looks like coarse crumbs', but I saw her handwriting in pencil added 'or like little peas'. That tiny detail made all the difference. Anyone else have an old note that fixed a long-standing bake?

My mom's pie crust recipe just said "cold water." Her note in the margin said "ice water, dummy." That was the game changer lol.

Was it just that one note or did she have more of those? My aunt's old cookie book had "bake until done" and she'd scribbled "edges light brown, you're welcome" next to it... saved me from so many burnt batches.

Did your grandma ever add any other secret notes to her recipes?
