My sourdough starter finally doubled after I stopped using tap water
For months my starter was just sitting there, barely bubbling. I was feeding it every day with my city's tap water, feeling so frustrated. Then my friend in Seattle asked if our water was chlorinated, and it hit me. I switched to bottled spring water three days ago, and this morning it had doubled in size for the first time! Has anyone else had this problem with their local water?
Honestly it's wild how many little things like water quality we just take for granted. I've seen the same thing happen with people's houseplants when they switch from tap water. Makes you wonder what else it's quietly messing up.
Jake's right that plants are more sensitive, but that tap water thing is no joke. My old apartment had water so hard it killed my starter twice. Had to switch to filtered water just to keep it alive. It's not just about chlorine, the mineral buildup can really mess with the yeast.
