Burned my third sourdough loaf in a row last night
I used to just throw my dough in cold and hope for the best but after 3 charred disasters I finally bought a $15 oven thermometer from Target. Turns out my oven runs 50 degrees hotter than the dial says which explains everything. Anyone else have an oven that lied to them for years?

Oh man I swear my oven has been gaslighting me for a decade. I used to think I just sucked at baking but nope it was my oven lying about the temp the whole time. Now I have to set it 25 degrees lower than what the recipe says or I get a burnt crust on everything. My sourdough loaves still come out ugly though so maybe it's just me at this point.

Doesn't it seem like every single gadget or tool we rely on has some kind of hidden flaw that we just accept for years? Like my dishwasher has a "normal" cycle that's actually just a pre-rinse unless you hit a secret button combo.

Ngl I just watched a whole video about this yesterday, how companies intentionally put these "hidden" features in so they can advertise a normal cycle but then the actual cleaning happens with some secret combo you’d never figure out on your own. Apparently it’s a thing with a lot of appliances, like ovens that have a "self-clean" that just locks the door and wastes energy unless you know the specific settings. Makes you wonder what else we’re missing just because nobody thought to tell us about the secret button sequence.
