I dropped $60 on a fancy digital scale and honestly, I think my old measuring cups were just fine.
After three flat cakes, I realized I was obsessing over grams when the real problem was my oven's hot spot, so has anyone else had a tool fix that wasn't really the fix?

Totally get it. My fancy level was useless until I fixed my wobbly workbench, same deal as @felixm29's cutting board.

That line about the oven's hot spot is the whole story. I bought a fancy new thermometer to fix my uneven roasts. Turns out, my old oven just burns everything on the left side. I chased the wrong problem for months. Sometimes the gear is fine, and the real issue is something basic you overlook.

Ugh, same energy. I bought a super expensive knife because my veggies were always uneven. Turns out my cutting board was warped and wobbling all over the place. Spent months blaming my skills and the blade when I just needed a flat surface. Felt so dumb when I finally figured it out.
