My sourdough starter tried to escape the jar last night

I was in my kitchen around 10 PM when I heard a soft pop from the counter. My starter, which I'd fed a big meal of rye flour, had pushed its lid off and was bubbling over the side like a science project. I had to quickly scrape about a cup of it into a new, bigger bowl before it made a huge mess. It's the first time it's been that active since I began it three months ago. Has anyone else had a starter get that rowdy overnight?

Saw a video once where a guy's starter literally cracked his glass jar from the pressure. He used way too much whole wheat and put it in a warm spot. Your rye feed plus any warm kitchen temps probably made it go nuts.

Holy crap, a cracked jar? @henry_murray wasn't kidding about these things getting wild.

Woke up to mine all over the fridge shelf once. Fed it some dark rye and forgot it on top of the warm stove. That combo is like rocket fuel. Had to bake two emergency loaves just to use it up.
