Finally got a clean neckline on a tough beard with my new technique

Had a client with a really patchy, curly beard who wanted a sharp neckline, and my usual clipper-over-comb method was leaving it uneven. I tried holding my trimmer at a 45-degree angle and using short, upward scooping motions against the grain, and it actually worked to blend those patches. Has anyone else found a specific angle or motion that helps with tricky beard textures?

Honestly that scooping motion you described sounds like a solid fix. Tbh I read a barber forum post once where a guy swore by using a straight razor on the neckline for super curly beards, said the pull of the skin gave a cleaner line. Never tried it myself but your method with the trimmer seems way more practical for daily work. Blending those patches is always the hardest part.

My buddy swears by that scoop move, totally backs up what @mileslane said.

Disagree completely, that scoop move always leaves a weird dip under my jaw. Tried it for a week and my beard looked uneven every single time. A straight razor on the neck sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, way too easy to cut up sensitive skin. Why fix what isn't broken with a regular trimmer?
