Pro tip: I was sure those cheap plastic guards for the Andis T-Outliner were a waste of money.

For a long time, I thought the metal blade was all you needed and the plastic ones were just a gimmick. A barber I work with kept telling me to try them for skin fades, saying they gave a softer line. I finally bought a pack for like $8 after a tough week of clients with really sensitive skin. I put one on and did a fade on my buddy, and the difference was real. It didn't cut as close as the bare blade, but it let me blend that line out so much smoother without any irritation. Now I use them for every first pass on a skin fade, especially with new clients. Has anyone else found a specific use for these, or do you stick with the metal?

Reminds me of when @abby_martinez tried using a foil shaver guard for the same reason.

Wait, you were doing skin fades with the BARE blade before? That's wild!

What's so wild about it, @emma96? A bare blade gives you way more control for a clean line.

So what's your go-to guard for a skin fade then, @emma96?
