PSA: I used a new shear-over-comb method on a thick beard and it went flat

I saw a video from a barber in Manchester showing a different way to shear over comb, using a 45 degree angle instead of straight in. Tried it on a regular with a really dense beard last Friday. The result was way too blunt and lost all the texture, looked almost painted on. I had to go back in with thinning shears to fix it. Has anyone else found that some advanced techniques just don't translate to every hair type?

My buddy tried that same Manchester method on Tuesday and ended up with a patchy mess he had to shave off.

Watched my neighbor swear by it for a month straight, said it was the only thing that worked. Then he forgot one session and his face looked like a pizza with pepperoni patches. Told me it was like the method just gave up halfway through.
