I was watching an old Myron Mixon interview and he said he goes through 40 pounds of hickory a day during a big cook
Found it on a YouTube clip from a 2018 contest in Memphis. That's a whole lot of wood just for smoke, makes you think about the scale these guys work at. How much wood do you all burn for a normal weekend cook?

Myron's 40 pounds is for heat too, not just smoke flavor.

Wait, but isn't the whole point to use the fire for both? If you're running a big offset, you need that fuel to keep temps stable for hours. Harperr82's five pounds for a weekend sounds nice, but that's a home cook setup. Myron's running a restaurant grade pit, so 40 pounds for heat and smoke together seems totally normal to me. It's not like he's wasting it, he's just cooking way more food.

Wow, that's insane. AndrewWilliams is right, that's for the whole fire. I burn maybe five pounds for a weekend pork butt.
