My offset smoker firebox cracked during a brisket cook last Saturday

I was six hours into a 12-pound packer and heard a loud ping, then saw a hairline crack running down the side of the firebox. I finished the cook by wrapping the crack with heavy-duty foil and propping the firebox up on cinder blocks to keep the draft going. Anyone else dealt with a cracked firebox mid-cook and got a quick fix that held up?

Gotta disagree with you there on wrapping it with foil and calling it a quick fix. Ive had a firebox crack on me before and patching it with foil is just asking for a bigger disaster later. The heat cycles are gonna make that crack spread like crazy, and youll be lucky if the foil doesnt catch fire or just melt off. Cinder blocks are sketchy too, they can hold moisture and explode when heated up. Id say you shouldve just kept brisket going in the oven at that point, or at least used some actual firebox cement from the hardware store to seal that crack while it was still hot. Foil is for covering leftovers, not holding together a metal box thats hitting 600 degrees.

Foil on a 600 degree firebox? That's just playing with fire, literally.

Yeah @jana769, my BBQ game is already a dumpster fire without literally adding metal fire to the mix, haha. Maybe I should stick to microwaving hot dogs before I hurt myself.
