Appreciation post: My uncle's take on the recent factory closure story was spot on
Everyone was focused on the 'jobs lost' headline, but he said to look at the property tax assessments for the last five years. Turns out the land value had tripled, and the real story was a redevelopment deal that was set up months before the closure announcement. Anyone else notice how often the real estate angle gets buried in these local economic stories?

Oh wow, that's not shady at all. Classic move, bury the real estate gold mine under a sad jobs story. Next they'll tell us the closure was due to "market conditions" and not a fat check from some developer. Your uncle is onto something, the property section of the news is where the real drama is.

Always figured these closures were just bad luck for workers. Your uncle's point about the property taxes shows there's a plan behind it. Makes you question the whole jobs narrative they push.
