I was that guy who always skipped the metadata on news photos
For years I just scrolled past the photo credits and captions in articles. Then last month I saw a picture of a protest in my city that looked super dramatic but the caption said it was actually from 3 years ago in a different country. That tipped me off that I was missing half the story every time. Now I read every single photo caption before I share anything. Has anyone else caught a misleading photo just by checking the date?

That's a really good point about checking the date. It's wild how often old photos get recycled to make current events look worse (or better) than they are. Makes you wonder what else we're missing by not reading the fine print.

Honestly, it reminds me of that news story last year about the "giant hail" photo that was actually from 2015. We all just ran with it without a second look. It really shows how a picture can sell a story before the facts even get in the door. Makes you double-check everything now.

Most people just scroll past anyway.
