Finally tried waxing my chain instead of wet lube. Never going back.

I spent like 3 years using fancy wet lube on my commuter bike and dealing with that nasty black gunk buildup on my drivetrain. Finally broke down and bought a crock pot for like 12 bucks at a thrift store, some paraffin wax, and PTFE powder from Amazon. Took me about 45 minutes to do the first batch of 3 chains, rotating them every week. After 2 months, I can actually touch my chain without needing a hazmat suit and my cassette looks almost new still. Has anyone else tried waxing and noticed their shifting stayed crisp way longer than with regular lube?

Makes way more sense for wet conditions, wax just washes right off if you ride in rain.

Whoa wait... people actually ride their bikes in the rain on purpose? I mean I've gotten caught in a downpour a few times but like... choosing to go out in it? That silicone spray tip is wild though. I've never thought about that for chains or cables. Does it leave a weird greasy mess all over the place afterward? Be curious to hear how that works out long term.

Read somewhere that some guys use a silicone spray instead. Lasts longer in rain.
